In addition to drums/percussion, Adam also does gigs and studio sessions as a bass player.
Bio/Resume
Adam Nurre is a percussionist, educator, and composer currently based in Austin, Texas. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Adam is a 2011 graduate of Northern Kentucky University, where he received his BM in Music Education with an emphasis in percussion. While at NKU, he was selected for the KMEA All-Collegiate Jazz Band in 2008, the PAS Kentucky Intercollegiate Percussion Ensemble in 2009, and has twice had the honor of performing at the KMEA annual convention: with Symphonic Winds in 2009 and the NKU Big Band in 2010. Adam was named winner of the first annual NKU Symphonic Winds Solo Competition in spring 2010, and was a two-time recipient of the NKU Corbett Scholarship for the Arts in 2010 and 2011.
As a marimba soloist, Adam has been invited to perform with the NKU Symphonic Winds at the OMEA convention in January 2011, with the Lakota West HS Wind Ensemble in fall 2011, and with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as part of their educational ‘Young Peoples Concerts’ series for the 2010-2011 season.
Adam currently keeps a busy performance schedule and can be seen gigging on drumset, percussion, and bass guitar around the Austin area several nights a week. 2015 was the busiest year yet – nearly 100 dates in Austin, and over 180 dates on the road with multiple touring acts, hitting 35 states and 2 Canadian provinces. He has also been involved in multiple recording projects with local Austin artists, ranging in genre from rock and jazz to funk and country.
In addition to performing and studio work, Adam maintains a studio of private lesson students at multiple locations around Austin, while also teaching after-school programs, clinics, and masterclasses at elementary, middle, and high school campuses around central Texas. His past teaching work includes serving as assistant percussion instructor at Rouse HS/Wiley MS (Leander TX), percussion director at Colerain HS (Cincinnati OH) and assistant percussion instructor at Conner HS (Hebron KY), as well as part-time teaching and consultant work with numerous band programs in Ohio, Kentucky, and Texas.
When he is not gigging, touring, or teaching, Adam has also found success as a composer and arranger. He has been hired to write marching band and percussion arrangements for multiple schools in Ohio, Kentucky, and Texas, and has also been commissioned to write solo percussion pieces for college recitals. Recently, Adam has taken interest in film and game scoring, and is currently working on expanding his composition portfolio.
